AMAN VERMA has been named as vice-captain at National League side Torquay United.
The 29-year-old midfielder signed a new one-year contract with the club in the summer.
He will be deputy to Courtney Richards, who was named club captain for the new season by manager Kevin Nicholson.
The gaffer has high praise for Verma, as described in his notes on the club’s official website.
“He commands the respect of all the players and staff, lives exactly as a professional footballer should, and naturally communicates well with all the other players to bring the best out of them,” Nicholson told Torquay United’s website.
“He is very ‘football smart’ and I often seek out his views on our tactics, game plans and thoughts about upcoming opponents. His ability and willingness to play in any position, in any role, highlights his commitment to the team first and above all else.”
But Torquay had a tough start to the new season as they went down 2-0 away to Macclesfield. Their next fixture is at home to Bromley.
