Amar Purewal starts for Darlington in 2-2 draw at Altrincham

THE NAME of Amar Purewal was a surprising omission from the scoresheet as Darlington drew 2-2 with Altrincham.

The Quakers came from behind twice in the dying minutes of the game to ensure their first game since promotion to the Vanarama National League North didn’t end in defeat.

Purewal started the game but it was a surprise to see him fail to hit the target if his recent form is anything to go by.

The striker was in hot form when he represented Panjab FA in the CONIFA World Cup, scoring 7 goals, including two hat-tricks, to help his side reach the final.

Purewal scored in the final against hosts Abkhazia but Panjab FA lost the game on penalties after it finished 1-1.

Having spent most of the 2015/16 season on the sidelines after suffering a serious injury, he returned for the last part of the season to help Darlington achieve their third promotion in four years.

And fans will be hoping to celebrate more goals and success from Purewal as the season progresses.
