FC EDMONTON midfielder Shamit Shome has been named in the Canada u-20 squad to face Costa Rica in two friendlies next month.
The 18-year-old has had an impressive first season as a professional, making 15 appearances in the North American Soccer League (NASL) this year.
And Shome has been getting good feedback from FC Edmonton head coach Colin Miller.
He told reporters: “If there is a better young player than Shamit in the NASL at the moment, I have yet to see it.
“He has been so consistent in the First Team this season and he will be missed when he’s gone because he has been a key player for us and I think he is now the standard for our Academy players.
Miller added: “I have to say, Shamit is also an intelligent young man. He comes from a terrific family, very supportive, and all these attributes that he has, you can see in how he plays and how he trains everyday. We’re very fortunate to have such a talented young man with us for the next few years.”
Shome has featured for the Canada U18 side and this year received his first u20 call up in February, playing in the 2-1 win over England.
